Halloween

Wed Oct 14, 2009, 11:46 PM
  • Mood: Euphoric
  • Listening to: the tick tack of the clock
  • Reading: this
  • Watching: King of Queens
  • Playing: Lego
  • Eating: peanutbutter and Nutella sandwich
  • Drinking: coffee
I guess it's gonna take a few more years or generations (if ever..) until ppl here will actually HAVE Halloween. Where I live it's more like a "We celebrate it.. and the neighbors don't.. she does it, but he don't..and they don't even know what it really is." ^^,
The retail industry tries their best to establish it here in Germany..you can buy alot of candy and costumes and stuff and there's a few big parties downtown every year that night.. or ppl do their own lil feasts (mostly teens and twens) but you don't see the kids running around "trick- or treating"
well ok.. some of them do! and will this year.. But they wont be too successful I think.. meaning.. they don't get rich. Most of the ppl don't have extra candy handy for em, not on purpose cuz they're mean or something (ah..well.. some of them might ..)..just because they wouldn't know about the 31st of October or they would've forgotten about it or something. Ok.. It has been worse!.. when I was a kid (yea..waaaaaay back then... ;) you couldn't get a hint of Halloween all over the country that time of the year..(..oh god I'm old... :( ..) so ..you can see a huuuge difference and the progress. But still.. lot of grown-ups don't give a crap about it or think it's just stupid (my parents!) and a few kids (the older ones) just take their chance trying to get on the candy-for-free-train.. and hey! they don't even come up with a costume or something.. I mean, hello!?!...cadgers.. I wouldn't even open up my door for those.. !!!
Long story short.. ^^, I like Halloween and I think it's such a sweet (literally) night for the kids and everybody. It's fun! and if we had it here I would love to make up a costume for my 5 year old.. it would be pirate or a lil vampire or knight :) aww cute...
And I'll buy some extra candy in case some lil dwarf, princess or witch comes knockin :)
and if not... it is all mine!... *___* ok I'd probably have to share it with my sonny but hey.. I am his mother.. I make the rules... ha ha haaa...

In Croatia, the kids used to go trick-or-treating on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, on the day I believe in Germany is called Fasching.

I've been living in Germany for the past 11 months, but I haven't seen any kids going trick-or-treasting at ANY time of the year. ^^; Is this so just in my neighbourhood, or is it a general rule?

P.S. Kannst auch auf Deutsch antworten, falls es dir so einfacher ist. ;)

Awww that's sad. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have Halloween, even if I'm working it this year. I'm doing what I love so really not complaining. I just loved the excuse to dress up. *laughs* Maybe there needs to be more advertisement to get people interested and remembering what the 31st is. *hugs*

Du bist von Deutschland! I had no idea! Mein Vater ist von Koln :)

I'm glad you're finally getting a little Halloween flavour over there

But! Same token, I remember as a kid being SUPAR jealous of Karnival, whenever we went to visit over Karnival, I would come home with a suitcase full of candy AND I got to wear a different costume every day for almost a week. I was in heaven...

ew..I hate Karnival and I'm so glad we don't have it here in Hamburg. Köln has a big Karnival tradition I know.. but it's just so stupid ^^, sorry..I know a lot of ppl would kill me for saying that .. but to me it is.. maybe it's cuz I never really took part in it but I can tell from the stuff that they broadcast on tv about Karnival every year that it is..dunno.. don't like it .. ^^, well I do like the diguising/masquerade part about it.. but that's pretty much it.. In Hamburg we have Fasching and that's just one day in Feb and only the kids do it..in their schools and sports club.. there's costumes, candy, music and games ..funny too but Halloween has something special about it.. more spooky, at night and fall is my favourite season of the year..so.. I would love it here..

I'm not offended that you hate Karnival lol, just surprised. I love the energy about it, parades, candy, its all good. I think the biggest part i like about it is that theres a way for everyone to be involved? With Halloween once you hit a certain age it kind of becomes "No you cant get free candy, but you can dress up like a slut and get wasted" which ....I'm not really a fan of lol.

But I can understand :)
